How Rudy's Celebrated Pride

As a company founded, led, and staffed by LGBTQ people, June is a special month for Rudy’s, and one we like to celebrate in style. That means more than just hanging rainbow flags in the window. This year, we were out fundraising, co-hosting block parties and marching.

Our hometown celebration began with beer and ended with a parade, as any good party should.

We partnered with Equal Rights Washington on the release of our Good Hair Day Pale Ale, donating a portion of proceeds from our beer collaboration with Reuben’s to support their work. At the launch party alone, friends and family helped us raise over $1,600 to further their advocacy and community building efforts in the state of Washington.

A few weeks later, our two organizations joined together again to march down 4th Avenue in Seattle’s Pride Parade, waving rainbow flags, dancing, and chanting along the way.

We planned so much partying it took up two full days and stretched across the city. Things kicked off in the Pearl district with the #CreatePride party, benefitting New Avenues for Youth, and wrapped at our Division shop with a block party supporting Outside In. Thanks to performances from local drag queens, amazing DJs, delicious food, and the generous support of our neighbors, we were able to raise over a $1,000 for the organizations, who work to support homeless LGBTQ youth.

Los Angeles

Dressed in hand-dyed rainbow shirts and waving flags, our Los Angeles stylists twirled, stomped, and sashayed down the streets of West Hollywood. They handed out ‘Do You buttons and temporary tattoos to the crowd too.

New York

With so many parties held at bars and clubs, youth often get left out of most Pride celebrations. That’s why the It Gets Better Project partnered with Seventeen for We Are Here, an evening just for teens at The Standard’s penthouse. A team of Rudy’s stylists showed up with kits full of glitter and hair color to style the attendees with sparkling roots, stenciled designs, and colorful, one-of-a-kind styles.

Pride doesn’t end when June does. Thanks to the support of our customers, our 1—2—3 give program operates year-round, providing shower essentials to over a dozen shelters across the country that serve homeless LGBTQ youth.
